SEO Impact

410 is a stronger signal than 404. It explicitly tells Google the page is permanently gone with no replacement. Google deindexes 410 pages faster than 404 pages. Use 410 for content you are permanently removing: deleted products, expired promotions, retracted articles. If the page has valuable inbound links, prefer a 301 redirect to a relevant page instead.

When to Use 410

Permanently deleted resources that should be quickly removed from Google's index: discontinued products, deleted blog posts, expired events.
