Keyword Research
The process of identifying search terms that your target audience uses and that have sufficient volume and achievable difficulty.
Keyword research is the foundation of any SEO strategy. It involves finding words and phrases your target audience types into search engines, understanding the intent behind those queries, evaluating the search volume (how many monthly searches), and assessing the difficulty (how hard is it to rank given competing pages' authority).
Key tools: Google Search Console (what queries already send you traffic), Google Keyword Planner (official search volume data), Ahrefs/Semrush Keyword Explorer (volume, difficulty, SERP analysis), and Google Autocomplete / People Also Ask (revealing related query variations).
Modern keyword research is less about finding a single keyword and more about understanding a topic cluster. Each pillar and cluster page targets a keyword group with similar intent. Long-tail keywords (3+ words, specific intent) typically have lower volume but higher conversion rates and lower competition — excellent for new sites building authority.
