SERP Features
Enhanced elements in Google search results beyond standard organic listings — including AI Overviews, featured snippets, image packs, local packs, and more.
SERP features are non-standard elements that Google displays in search results to answer queries more directly or from multiple angles. They have multiplied significantly since 2015 and now occupy large portions of screen real estate, often above the first organic result.
Major SERP features: AI Overviews (launched 2024, AI-generated answer boxes), Featured Snippets (position zero text/list/table answers), People Also Ask (accordion Q&A boxes), Knowledge Panels (entity information boxes on the right), Image Packs (grid of images), Video Carousels, Local Map Pack (for local searches), Shopping Results (product listings with prices), Sitelinks (multiple links below a branded search result), and Ads (paid results at top and bottom).
For SEO strategy: identify which features appear for your target keywords and optimise accordingly. If Knowledge Panels appear, focus on entity SEO. If image packs appear, optimise image alt text and filenames. If PAA boxes appear, add FAQ sections. Each feature type requires a specific optimisation approach.
